I initially found this place when my husband was here interviewing for a job. We went here right when we got into town since they had vegetarian food and beer. Two of our favorite things! I honestly think that I was more okay with the idea of moving to LC because my first experience of the town was at High Desert. Since then, we have been back many times. It is probably the restaurant we have frequented the most in LC and I have to say I really like this place. It is a little dive-y, but that is part of its charm. They decorate the ceiling with a ton of postcards. The tables and chairs are a bit mismatched. They have cute little weaved rugs on the tables and the staff is always really nice. Their veggie burger is probably one of the best that I have had. Makes it even better that it comes out on a deliciously toasted multi-grain bun and on top of that you can get a side of sweet potato fries. So good! You can also order a behemoth plate of nachos. They have multiple sizes and I believe a suggested number of people that each size can feed. Definitely be mindful of that when you order it. That nachos were pretty good, but not spectacular. Definitely a good food to munch on with buddies. They also have a variety of quesadillas there, including a lot of non-traditional quesadilla flavor combination. I haven't had any yet, but they all sound really great! Their beer is pretty good although I can't say any of it stands out that much. However, I just moved from St. Louis which has a ton of microbrews and it is hard to compete with those. It is definitely the best place that I have found so far for beer in LC. I like their beers and their atmosphere way better than De La Vega (which from my understanding doesn't really make their own beer). I definitely think that I will frequent High Desert many more times while I am living in LC.

Some of the best burgers in this part of the country!

I'm with a group of craft beer loving guys from Virginia traveling through town and all of us loved this place. I can't account for the few reviews that noted poor service because our experience was the exact opposite. Take it from a guy who used to be a waiter - our waitress (Tabitha) was a model service provider - cheerful, helpful, and attentive. Ask her for beer tasters if you're not sure what beer you want to try. We had the Imperial Stout, the Anniversary IPA, the Steam Lager, and the ESB. All were delicious. The green chile cheeseburger is something you just can't find on the East Coast, and it is terrific, so if you are from out of town we recommend it highly. We are so glad Yelp led us to this brewpub!

One low point: High Desert Brewery belongs in Texas ... so I can become a regular. Little hole in wall in an industrial park. We pulled in, looked around, and went back to pick up the dogs and bring them with us. "Dog friendly" is an understatement. Must have a dozen dogs there that day. Atmosphere was laid back and friendly. We talked with all the tables around us, even the couple with the rescue dog who had to leave because of his aggressiveness. The beer was good, if unexciting for a microbrewery. What we tried off the menu was good and dirt cheap. This would be my hangout if I leaved nearby. The food and beer aren't spectacular, but the atmosphere, the crowd, and the low prices make High Desert a winner.

My husband and I came to high desert brewery after being away for two years. I use to love this place, now I'm very disappointed. We ordered a fried veggie basket as an appetizer, which was brought out with our main meals. It wasn't the item described in the menu (fried zucchini, mushrooms, onion rings, buffalo chips, and jalapeño poppers) instead we received a few fried zucchini, mushrooms and mostly sweet potatoes and tater tots. When we made a comment about it everyone shrugged it off. A head cook named Clide came to our table to discuss our issue. When we tried to discuss our concerns, he simply told us that all we were looking for was a free meal. We were very shocked at this treatment and utter disrespect. Clide apparently was off duty and shouldn't have even dealt with our issue. The owner stood by and watched this all unfold and when approached she told my husband, "Sorry you didn't want the extra stuff." This business obviously has no concern for how they treat people. We will definitely not give them our business again.

I was told that this is the happening place in Las Cruces (at least at night for a beer), and I wasn't disappointed. The beer selection is good, and the atmosphere is lively. There is live music at night and the food is your typical pub fare. The one item that stood out on the menu was the green chili soup. I had been looking for something spicy in town and couldn't find a salsa or green chili that was above mild. The soup was SPICY. I LOVED IT. Finally something to make me sweat! If you are looking for spicy and like beer...This is the place for you!

Sooo service was very friendly and the atmosphere great. Service was a little slow but he had a lot of tables to cover and we weren't in a hurry so no complaints. We sat outside - i think the service inside might have been better. It was packed and it was a weeknight. Patio allows dogs (I'm for it). Parking is limited but there is street parking. Prices reasonable. Food was good, beer was great. Took some beer home.

Hope you dont get a Bad beer! Clean your brewery lines people! Beer tastes rancid most times. But when you do get a good batch its worth it. (Anniv ale is best) You only need 2 to start feeling it. Anymore than 2 you will be paying for it all week. Service is horrible unless youre a regular and know the staff. You can bring your dog so we often go after a sunday hike . Their food is plain. The nachos are huge so order a small if theres only 2 of you. And beware the smokers! It gets pretty gross if you're a non smoker trying to enjoy the patio. The regulars and crowd are always pleasant, lots of card games, dominos and conversations going on. Great live music nights.

Good place all around. The beers were all pretty good, and you could tell they were relatively high ABV, probably 5-6%+. Came with a group during dinner time and there was a bit of a wait, but not bad and not unexpected. I had the chili which was really, really good. Probably some of the best I've had. The cornbread that came with it? Sadly, tasted like bad Jiffy mix. Also had the Nachos, which come in sizes small, medium, large, and ludicrously large. Those were pretty good.

Food was decent, the beer was actually pretty good and the staff was friendly enough. But the place was disgustingly dirty. The smell was overpowering and made me notice all the other things that were run down. Missing floor tiles, holes in the wall, missing shelves, stained and drooping ceiling tiles, etc. There is a pattern here and I am guessing it continued into the kitchen and brewery. Not for the squeamish for sure. And one personal nitpick, if you are a micro-brewery and are pouring a 14oz beer as a pint, you suck. Overall, I rate this place as a one star in my mind and won't be returning. Thankfully I experienced the plethora of velvet Elvis paintings by the bathrooms.

This is a cool, seemingly very local, spot. It's tucked away in a small industrial area. We are new to the area, and being from DC and Virginia where we enjoy many local breweries, we were looking for some good beer. We both found something we liked, saw plenty more to try next time we come!

What a find! I was in Las Cruces for business and being the addicted Yelper that I am, I searched the community for a brewery and found this place. It's a hole in the wall kind of place but very interesting. I had the Red Ale that was outstanding....well actually I had a couple. The Green chili cheese burger was to die for! The burger was accompanied with sweet potato fries which added a nice twist. All this yumminess for a whopping $16! What? That's crazy! I pay more than that for margaritas in DC. Anyway, I highly recommend making the quick jaunt to the place.

High Desert is a favorite of mine whenever I come to Las Cruces. The beers are great, the food is fresh and fantastic, the staff and patrons are very friendly, and the ambience is welcoming and relaxing. The Fresh Hop IPA, Anniversary Ale, and the Black IPA, are my favorites. Their chile is spicy and delicious. And the view of the Organ Mountains from the seating outside is fantastic. High Desert is also conveniently located right across the street from my favorite my favorite Mexican restaurant, Nellie's Cafe. This place is not to be missed.

Great roadhouse atmosphere and delicious food and beer! We tried a couple flights (taster trays) and I especially liked the Rye Pale Ale and the Imperial Stout. Sadly, they did not have an IPA on tap at the time of my visit, which, in my opinion, should be a staple at every brewery - I love hoppy beers! Awesome brewery, way more casual than the other one in town, highly recommended!

The beer is good but the staff is just horrible. I mean HORRIBLE. Slamming pints at us, did not like to answer questions. When I walked around to have a look the waiter kept an eye on me and then asked if he could help me and I said I was just looking. He mumbled something and walked away. I asked a second staff member a question and she was annoyed by me asking a question. When I asked to speak to Donna, the waiter told me she was too busy to speak to me. Donna finally came to outskirts of our table but was hesitant to speak to us. When informed of her staff she said she was sorry and then just left. First and only time I will go to this place, from reading the reviews I am beginning to gather some prejudice at this place. They can keep their beer and their attitudes. WARNING to other, especially darker skin bothers and sisters, beer lovers do not come here. Bad Service and Bad business.

I am starting to work in Las Cruces regularly and eat here several times every week. The beer is very good. There's always a lively crowd at night. The fried food, french fries and fried sweet potatoes are excellent. The green chile cheeseburger is excellent. I haven't tried much from the menu yet but I plan to at night it is a very fun place with a very good selection their own brewed beers on tap

We visited while on vacation last month Sunday afternoon. We tried a foursome sampler. This is one ambitious little brewery, with lots of choices, I think there were almost a dozen to pik from. Bummed I was a smidge too early for the Porter. Of the four, the APA (which was our bartenders recommendation) was excellent. People coming in wanting growler refills seemed to request the APA the most. The "small" nacho was HUGE and delicious, mushrooms were super tasty! We sat at the bar, bartender did not start out very friendly, but not unfriendly either and provided good service...surprisingly he warmed up after he (a Buckeye) found out I was a Wolverine ;) We later realized he was at the end of his shift and by that time he smilin" and friendly. A very neighborhood bar feeling, relaxed and inviting. Would definately return.

It's got comfort food and booze... like most brewery-restaurants. The beer is pretty good and worth finding the place. Don't let the look of the place fool you. It looks a little seedy, but it's safe. Service was on the slow side, but then that's typical for brew-pubs. Drink more alcohol and you'll be happy... just don't drink it too fast.

I had lunch at High Desert today and it was my best experience there so far. On previous visits I had been turned off by the attitude of one of the female staff members. Today my friends and I sat outside and enjoyed a terrific pitcher of pilsner and a couple of burgers. We asked the waiter to help us choose a beer, he was right on. The food was good and our server was great, he was not in our face and took care good care of us. Maybe the trick is to sit outside........

Wow. What a difference a few months makes! We have been going here on and off since moving here almost two years ago. Usually, service was ok, food good, beer good. Our visit yesterday at 5PM was horrible. We were not greeted at the door, just dismissively told to seat ourselves by a very ticked off guy. We tried to find a clean table and couldn't. I went to stand by the bar where folks order their growlers to get a rag to clean the table, and was ignored until I flagged down the lady filling growlers. She knew I was there, just ignored me hoping someone else would step up, which seemed to be the MO for the crew -very disappointing! She grabbed a dripping wet, nasty looking sponge to clean the table and stormed back to where my wife was seated. When my wife said hello and asked how her day was going. The reply? Some unintelligble grumbling. My wife asked her if everything was ok, to which the waitress snapped "I answered you! I'm fine". At this point I snapped. I told my wife we were going to somewhere that wanted our business. We promptly went to the Game, and had great service, good food, and good (Moose Drool!), though not brewed locally, beer. We were both truly disappointed. We like High Desert, and prefer to support local businesses. Our past experiences were always satisfying if not great at High Desert. It seemed like this crew working yesterday was truly ready to just throw down with each other, and took it out on the customers...unsatisfactory! We have not had this rude of treatment at a business here, and trust me, we have been treated as a bother as opposed to a wanted customer fairly regularly. In bigger cities, businesses that do this go out of business quickly, but when you're in a one microbrewery town, I guess you don't need to focus on good customer service. Some businesses here could truly benefit from enhancing their customer service training and practices!

We were passing through Las Cruces on our way to Dallas and we were very glad we found this little treasure. We were there on a Thursday night, and I was surprised by how many people were there. The beer was great, we ate hot wings a poppers which were regular pre-frozen bar food, so I don't think it's fair for me to judge their food based on that. I liked the vibe of the place. A band started playing a little after 8, which was an unexpected treat.

Good selection of beers. Great , friendly place to hang out with a diverse crowd of people. Sometimes there is live music, usually this place is kinda quiet, but on weekends or when there is a band can be pretty lively. This is a good early evening destination.. Food is kinda greasy, although they have some more interesting options than a typical bar. Some good appetizers, such as nachos. A good place to get the feel for the laid back, friendly town that Las Cruces is. Some really cool, nice people on the staff.

Mostly, we love the waiter RUDY. He turned us on to the brewery because there are tons of vegetarian options. The veggie burger is a bit spicy but still delicious. I've had the quesodilla, sweet pot fries, the hummas plate, and the fried ravioli as well and everything was great. The atmosphere is cool and relax and there is outdoor seating.

I grew up in Las Cruces and lived there until I was 26, (which equals 5 years of legal drinking). I remember how excited I felt that first time I walked into High Desert to buy my first legal drink. Over the next 5 years, I had many a brew here, and always considered it to be one fine brewery. Well, when you only have a choice of one brewery (as this is LC's one and only), its not difficult for it to become your favorite. Certainly, its the best beer in town. But when compared to other New Mexico breweries, ie Chama River, Turtle Mountain, Marble; it comes up a little short. I mean, don't get me wrong...HD's IPA is pretty damn good (and surely I've drank enough of it to know!), and they have some other decent brews as well. They try to keep at least 8 on tap. But the aforementioned Albuquerque area breweries are at the very least right on par, and often exceed what HD has to offer. Their food is average pub food...not bad, but nothing special (though their nachos are ginormous). I know and have known many of the staff at HD throughout the years, so its always been a friendly experience for me there. No problems on that front. However, HD has some odd practices, that after having moved to Albuquerque and found that NONE of the breweries here practice, has left a slightly bitter taste in my mouth (and not the hoppy kind). For one, they pre-fill their growlers and keep them stored in a fridge. You can see them right behind the bar. In all likelihood, when you buy one, it probably wasn't filled more than 24 hours prior, but that's about the window of time when a growler of beer starts to wane on its freshness. Personally, I prefer my growlers filled on the spot to ensure maximum freshness, and thus far, High Desert is the only brewery I've been to that has this peculiar practice. Another thing: they won't fill any other growlers than the ones bearing their label. I know...they are the only brewery in Las Cruces, so no biggy, right? Well, what happens if I want fill my absolutely badass Stone Brewery growler at the Des? What if I already have growler and don't want to pay the extra $3 deposit on their piece of glass (their growlers have stick-on labels, and are CLEAR glass, which allows beer to become skunky from UV light exposure, and frankly, looks rather tacky). Well, I'm shit out of luck...management policy forbids them from doing so. And in any case, even if you bring in one of their growlers, they won't actually fill it for you...they'll just exchange it for one of their pre-filled ones. Again, this is the ONLY brewery I've been to which has this absolutely retarded policy. I feel a little bad ragging on an establishment that I've enjoyed so much in the past, and truly, I have some cherished memories there (mostly because of the company I was with). But at that time, I didn't really know any better...it was all Las Cruces had (and still, sadly, has) to offer. I'll still drop in for a brew when I'm in town, but High Desert has definitely slid down a few notches in my opinion. I gave them 3 stars, but suspect at least half a star was for old-times sake.

Went here on a Sunday night with co-workers. Got to love a place where they have dog bowls in the outside patio and at least 2 different tables showed up with dogs. The beer was good, the green chile cheeseburger was good and one of the side options is tator tots which is just great. Drive slow when trying to find the place because you may miss it based on its fairly non-descript exterior. I went again for an early dinner on Saturday. The place was still busy and inside felt like a college bar, stale beer smell and all, though all ages were there. My green chile cheese chicken sandwich was good. I just wish the inside didn't smell so much like a college bar.

When I hadn't been exposed to many micro-breweries, I thought this was great beer. 10 years and many beers (and pubs) down that road, I can honestly say every beer at High Desert tastes about the same: hoppy to the point of being unpleasantly reminiscent of pine-sol. This was probably really awesome beer when they first opened, but micro-brewing has changed so much for the better in the interval, I can't help but wonder if High Desert is like some kind of beer coelacanth. Or maybe it's like a Japanese soldier living in the jungles of whatever island he was stationed on, convinced that WWII is still going on. Anyway, when you have Chama, Santa Fe, and Marble all brewing in the state, you need to up the ante a bit beer-wise. I've heard from some friends of mine who brew their own at home that HiDes uses a handful of ingredients to make several different beers, which is cool, ingenuity-wise, but hard on the palate. (I don't know if this is true, but it sounds reasonable, given the evidence) Some of the food is outstanding, but by and large it's all institutional food, whatever you can order off the freezer truck. I'm not looking for brilliance when I'm ordering something deep fried, but you expect a little bit of craft food along with the craft beer. The burgers and chicken sandwiches are good, but if you screw those things up, you really have no business being a restaurant. The nachos are pretty outstanding, and even if it is just making a messy stack of processed food on a tray, I defy you to make a mess this delicious at home. Still and all, kids, I can get a hamburger anywhere. It gets super crowded, and the service is usually pretty good and way on top of things, so no worries there. They may not have time to be super attentive, but they get it done, especially considering how swamped they are most of the time. High Desert has a tendency to book good, if lesser known, out of town bands, which is a welcome reprieve from all the local cover bands. One proviso: You will probably have to wade through a sea of cheap cigarette smoke and unwashed people to get to the front door. Some people are into that, whatevs. You have to remember this with Las Cruces nightspots: there's not a lot to do here, all the bars start to look good after awhile. Still, if you don't mind drinking a beer at lunch, stop in on an afternoon when you can hear yourself think, eat a burger, and drink a beer. The staff is usually pretty cool, and there's worse ways to spend a lunch hour.

Good handcrafted beer, decent prices. Not a good place to watch a game at, there is only one TV. The bartender was a little snippy at us. I'd give it another go though. I didn't try any food.

This place rocks. The brew is awesome (Peach Wheat) and the food is better than your average pub food. Take the servers word for it if there are two of you and you try to order a medium nachos. She will tell you your nuts and get the extra small! Its enough to feed a table of 5.

The smell is pretty bad (beer making doesn't smell great to many folks), but the tasty beers definitely make it worthwhile. The best craft brew beer in LC! Also their burgers are quite good!

By far the best place in town to get a beer. Amazing microbrewery with epic nachos = Sold.

This place is a nice change of pace from most of the chains and Mexican food restaurants you tend to find in Las Cruces. There is not a ton to do in this town, and my girlfriend and I were missing Tucson badly when we decided to check this place out. I'm glad we did. The building is non-descript, but not a strip mall stucco joint which was appreciated. The patio was nice and spacious, and best of all, dog friendly. The servers were all awesome and incredibly friendly. They even brought water and a few strips of bacon for our basset hound (she's obviously a fan of this place) and everything was served promptly. I really don't know what most people expect from servers, but nobody was rude or inattentive AT ALL. The food was just okay. Bar food's gonna bar food, so don't expect anything too exciting, but they do have a veggie burger and a decent veggie-friendly platter which is always nice (Tags: Vegan, Vegetarian, Moped, Fixed Gear). Beer was good but unremarkable. It was cheap though, which I like. I had the anniversary IPA and it was fairly hoppy, but had sort of a metallic finish. They have a shit ton of options though, so I'd definitely like to try more. All-in-all this is a good place. If you're from Arizona don't expect Four Peaks, it's kind of like a scaled down Barrio Brewing Co. in Tucson. Mellow vibes and nice servers, meh food and pretty good beer - not bad.

The food is pretty standard pub fare. I was there twice on my business trip and had the green chile chicken sandwich (which was okay) and the chile cheese burger, which was quite good -- it didn't seem to be made from a frozen patty, and the lettuce was not the shredded crap that seems to be standard these days. The beer was good, but not uniformly so. I recommend buying a flight or just asking the bartender to taste before you buy. There are a few other reviews on here which accuse the staff of racism. Frankly I did not see any evidence of that. There were plenty of darker-skinned folks eating and drinking in the restaurant. And the first night I was there, one of the waitstaff was wearing a middle-eastern-style tunic (sans pants) -- which makes me think they're a pretty tolerant bunch. Don't be afraid of the negative reviews. Go in and see for yourself. The beer is $3 a glass and you have nothing to lose but a few minutes of your time.

The food is traditional pub type food. The do have a nice choice of foods to eat. If you are on a diet you will have to skip it when you go. As for the beer they have a number of different kinds of beer that they make. If you are not a beer drinker the root beer they make is good. Recently they expanded the outdoor patio and a nice place to hang in the evenings.

I don't consider myself a connoisseur of brew pubs, but I have been to my fair share over the years. This pub ranks above average for their beer. One thing I do know about beer, is fresher is better. High Desert seems to keep their brews fresh. Normally I am not a fan of hefeweizen, but their unfiltered version was tasty and refreshing. Also liked their stout.

Hubby and I passed through here while on vacation. Not far from I-10. So very convenient. Be prepared to go past it and turn around because it's kind of hidden by tall bushes and a wall. He had the Green Chile Cheeseburger. Said it was tasty! Fries were good (and he's kind of picky). I had the Chicken Caesar Salad. Also pretty tasty. Lettuce was just a tad wilted. Parmesan cheese was what my son calls "sawdust." I prefer real Parmesan cheese. Would I go back there again if passing through? Yep!

Stout, IPA, and pulled pork sandwich. IPA was excellent. Not quite hoppy enough for my taste, but rich and pure. Stout was full of flavor, not quite a meal, not chewable, but excellent. Today's special pulled pork sandwich was fantastic, clean, uncluttered, slightly sweet sauce and super fresh inch thick layer of homemade slaw, perfect counterpoint of crispy, fresh veggies. Great place in las cruces!

We chose to eat here with it in mind that we might leave, depending on atmosphere and child accommodation (2yr old). My wife and I were surprised with the food and the beer. I enjoyed an Amber ale to start with a green chile burger and finished with a taster 4-pack. Would return again!

Abstract: Interesting location, nice feel and good food. Atmosphere: It is a house in a residential area. We arrived night and did not know where to park initially and then we discovered parking on the side of the building. There is outdoor and indoor seating. We choose to sit indoor, the feeling is warm with wood table and it feels fresh and new. Product: It is a brewery so I had to partake in some adult beverages. I had a pint of the Oktoberfest, Pilsner, and the Steam beer. The beer was good, it is about on par with many mirco-breweries. Non of the beers were outstanding, but out of the three I enjoyed the Steam beer the most. Food: I ordered wings and sweet potato fries. The price on the wings was really good and I was very impressed with the quality and the mass of the wings. The flavor was good. Pretty dang good wings. Sweet potato fries were good, but not the same caliber as the wings. Service: When we walked in we were told that the kitchen closes in 8 minutes. (we arrived shortly before 9pm). We almost didn't stay due to that fact, but the bartender/server came over quickly and explained that everything was fine and he would be back to take our food order. Although we did feel a bit rushed, it was not the fault of the establishment, we arrived late. The service was swift and attentive. Conclusion: If I travel to Las Cruces again I will most likely go here again to try some other beers and get some wings! If you are visiting or you live in town and haven't been here, it is worth checking out.

Stopped in coming thru Las Cruces. I had the Green Chili Cheeseburger with Garlic Fries. Couldn't taste garlic on the grid at all, burger was great. My son had the veggie burger w/o the bun which he enjoyed. My other son had the Smoked Turkey Guacamole which he was disappointed with as this was deli meat slices. Root beer was delicious. Grandpa was not happy it's the red chili. Oh, the large nachos is LARGE!!! What a surprise. It small for 2 people. Lesson learned. Be ready for a long wait. Service was good but the large nachos took 20 minutes.

Good little place in Las Cruces. There's another little microbrewery nearby in Las Cruces, the Spotted Dog Brewing Co, but High Desert was open later, and that won them my business. The building is in something of an unconventional location; it's basically in a residential neighborhood. But there's plenty of parking. Seating is pretty evenly split between a covered outdoor courtyard-type area and the indoor tables. Don't expect anything fancy, or any kind of trendy decor - you won't find it here. But the beer is good - I had their kolsh and peach wheat. Fairly priced (though not cheap). Food is pretty typical bar food, though the green chile burger is a nice twist, and I heard good things about the nachos (they're big, I saw them). Service is also friendly, quick, and courteous. Overall, the sort of place that breeds regular customers.

My girlfriend and I often reminisce about a really nice evening here after a trip to White Sands. It's just got a cute small town atmosphere with excellent service. The green chili cheeseburger isn't amazing, and neither are most of the beers, but there's just something about the charm of the joint. The cheesecake is stellar, and only $2 a slice!

Uniquely perfect. Don't expect the efficiency or service of a chain and you'll be pleased with the quirky local nature of High Desert. Green Chile Cheeseburger with chopped Green Chile is my favorite. Highly recommend the Anniversary IPA, when available.

We were traveling through Las Cruces and found this brewing company with a changing variety of brews to try. The menu was surprisingly diverse with spicy chili, burgers, and other sandwiches. The sides included potato salad beside the usual fries. There were many appetizers and the "bigger stuff" included many quesadillas. The Five star rating is based on the category of restaurant and that it exceeded expectations!

Great beer. I went with a large group of 6 people and we got seated right away. Drinks came out fast. Everyone ordered different beers and we all sampled each others drinks. All of the beers were very good. I was a big fan of the bohemian Pilsner. The girls liked the peach flavored beer. We ordered the large plate of beef and green chili nachos. This was a MASSIVE plate of food. Even with six people we didn't completely finish the plate. Service was less impressive towards the end. After our first drink and the food was brought out, the server didn't come back to our table once. It took a significant amount of time to flag him down to get our check. Not getting a second round of drinks wasn't a huge issue for us since we were just stopping in before hitting up LC Beerfest. But it was clear the waiter wasn't ignoring us, just bogged down with other tables. So service started great but lagged at the end. Still, very cool place. Brewery is basically a modified house. Very casual feel.

Luke, our server was awesome. What a GREAT neighborhood find! The beers were happy hour priced and refreshing, the green chili menu items tasty, and the sweet potato fries the best we've ever had--ever! After driving all day on a Sunday, we will list this in our contacts as s place to always come back to when making the trip from Austin/Boerne to Phoenix.

Okay. Way better now! A few months ago I left a review stating that the beer had a taint to it. I guess they've gotten everything all cleaned up because it's all back to delicious beer now. Love it again!

The brews are very good and the food is pretty decent too. I usually take visiting friends there for a green chile cheeseburger. The reason for the downgrade is because I took my high tech stainless vacuum growler in to fill it with something good and was told that they only fill their own glass jugs. I travel in a rv and the last thing I need is glass! If they were in Oregon, they'd be out of business with a policy like that.

My husband and I are relocating to Las Cruces from Chicago, and we've been trying to find the local gems. High Desert is definitely one of those gems. Unlike my favorite brew pubs in Chicago, the prices here were extremely reasonable ($3.75/pint, $12.00/pitcher), and the beers we tried (extra special bitter, holiday ale, peach wheat ale) were definitely up to snuff. Furthermore, we ordered food, which was delicious. He got a pub burger with green chili cheese fries and I got a veggie burger with sweet potato fries, and both were delicious. Being a vegetarian, it can be hard to find things on menus at non-vegetarian menus, but there were many vegetarian options. The bartender was really nice and helpful, the service was quick and efficient but not brisk or unfriendly at all. We will definitely definitely be back!

Dive bar kind of feel. Food and beer are both excellent. I love this place. If I live in Las Cruces, I would go there all the time. I wish this place would have more food selections and beer selections.

I would come back here for the great beer selection on tap any day, great variety and great taste. Even when I was hesitant of what to get the server brought me some samples and found the kind of beer to match my desire. Reason for the rating was the food. After 5 minutes of ordering, food was already on the table which was great, but being that fast does say a lot to me. I ordered the Reuben which was recommended to me after asking how it was and a side of fried ravioli. The brisket was kind of dry, not much time put into it but was a great serving size it was good, not bad but also not better than good. The ravioli itself was undercooked and pretty chewy but having said that the flavor was still there just could have been a lot better if passion was put into the food and not rushed. The place of establishment wasn't really even busy at the time of ordering.

Nachos were very good! The Dark Bock beer was the best beer of the day. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Only eatery that I could find in las cruces that was open at 10pm on Tuesday. I had the green chile burger with green chile tator tots. You can pick whether you want spicy or mild. I picked mild but the waiter told me they messed up and gave me spicy, but they weren't that spicy at all. The food was good, not great, tasty and smoothered in cheese, but essentially it's just a sports bar cheeseburger with chile on top. For beers I got an ipa and a black ipa. I liked the black ipa better, the regular tasted more like a pale ale to me. I wanted to ask the bartender what hops they used but it didn't seem like that kind of place.

Love this place..great beer and food..just wish staff was more attentive. .instead of talking to friends took care of paying customer..at least made aware of I'm eats from meny are not available or made recommendation for replacement. .what can u expect from bunch of 20 somethings. .?

Good selection of beers on tap; definitely a neat brewery as it is practically located in a neighborhood. I must say that the bar is pretty cool as well; they have all kinds of coasters taped up to the ceiling. I would have definitely enjoyed a beer I their nice patio but it was somewhat chilly on the night that I visited them. The bartender was friendly and there a steady stream of patrons coming in.

Got an awesome green chile cheeseburger. Green chile was thick and filleted (not chopped, but you can order chopped), the beef itself was high quality (third pound), buns and veggies fresh. Cheese was thick and burger itself was charbroiled so you had that great flavor on top of green chile. Deep fried mushrooms were delish, and cheesecake for desert was off the hook.

I spent the summer of 2012 in Las Cruces not far from this brewery. So I spent a lot of time in there. The IPA & pale ale are excellent craft beer, the wings & burgers are top notch. If you get a chance, check it out. You will not be disappointed.

No complaints at all! Great food, good staff and some very good beers. Growlers are cheap, and the green chili stew will have you singing about the "ring of fire"! This place is the highlight of las cruces!

Given that Las Cruces doesn't have the beer scene that Albuquerque does, this place ain't so bad, but I think they could use some competition. Yes, I know there's some Mimbres Brewing or something of that nature also in Cruces, but I've heard it's hardly anything to write home about. Despite my less than favorable intro, I'd say I do like the beers here. I started with the barleywine which had some tough shoes to fill after I'd so recently enjoyed a number of good ones, including La Cumbre's version. I found this one to be lacking in hop aroma and taste and to be generally undecided as what it was meant to be. It simply lacked any distinctive taste that could have and should have made it memorable. I followed this with a flight that included the Rye IPA, Black IPA, Porter, and an ESB. I started with the ESB and found it to be quite good. It seemed highly sessionable---I didn't see ABV or IBUs posted anywhere, but then again I wasn't sitting at the bar--- and wasn't a hopbomb. I then moved to the Rye and found it to be just as peculiar as the barleywine. It was sweet to start and had a soda-like quality and taste that didn't please me any. In fact, the Rye was my least favorite. The Black IPA had a good hoppy nose with that roasty, maltiness you'd expect both on the nose and in taste. I enjoyed it and probably wouldn't have minded another. Finally, the porter was good and true to it's style. It too had the dark, roasty notes and a good, thick body. This certainly would make a good quaffer for winter months. I didn't try the food though it looked decent, but if I return it would be to try more beers and see if these guys are consistent and worthy of a fourth or fifth star.

Came here with friends Dan and Jon after finally having a successful run of a new system. These two younger guys and I, the out-of-towner, went out for a beer while the rest of the team went home exhausted. Something about families and having worked two weekends in a row. They should have come. It was a beautiful night, so we sat outside. Under cover, because it looked like it would still rain. Our server Monett was very good - kept us in beer, recommended good stuff. Just the right balance of flirt and efficiency. Our pitcher of Anniversary Ale was tasty, if a little strong - I'm puzzled by the doppels and tripels, prefer to enjoy several beers over time rather than get buzzed in a hurry. But no matter, it was delicious. Liked my glass of ESB even better. Mildly hoppy, plenty of flavor. Nice job, High Desert. We got nachos to go with the beer. Mmm - get those. Dan and Jon warned me to quit before all the rest of the cheesy sloppy gooey tasty tasty tasty stuff was gone or I'd be unhappy in the morning. I didn't listen because it was good and the Anniversary Ale was imploring me to go ahead, I'd be fine. In fact, I was not unhappy in the morning, and feel I can now trust Anniversary Ale in everything it tells me. Go there.

Husband and I went on a Saturday afternoon for lunch and had no trouble getting seated (which is a huge change from other breweries we have been to on the east coast and west coast that are normally very busy on the weekends.) I would have loved to sit outside, but unfortunately in this state you can smoke on patios, yuck :( The interior was a little dark with the low slung ceilings, but it wasn't bad in terms of ambiance for the area. Our service was attentive, and we really enjoyed our beers a lot! I had the peach wheat an hubby had the black IPA. The food was pretty good. I had the Reuben and hubby had the brat. Overall, I would return to fill a growler of beer, but probably wouldn't want to hang out and eat there often.

Great beer, decent food, OK service, crappy maintenance given the crowds they pull in. The place could do much much better because it already has a following and I think the followers would agree that improved atmosphere, menu, and service would only make it better.

  • Mike P.

First the beer is amazing. As good if not better than stone or ballast point in SD. The green chili cheese burgers are the bomb. The hot chili is HOT. The wait staff is amazing. Def recommend if in town on a trip or a local.

    (5)
  • Sean H.

Service is awful. I've been multiple times and there are really only 2 members of the wait staff that are decent. Parking is atrocious. You'll most likely have to park in a nearby neighborhood on the street and walk. Food is decent. The beer is good. I just don't understand how this place is so popular.

While driving from San Antonio back to San Diego we stopped off here. We were a bit nervous about the neighborhood. Beer is good, food was better than we thought it would be too. We met some really nice people too. We agree about the staff. They all seem a little frantic and I felt bad asking for things, but they weren't rude, just busy.

The food was good but our waitress was a very unhappy person. There was a happy waitress taking care of an adjacent table so I can't say the service was bad. We just had a server who was obviously having a bad day. - the food was good and the beer ( wheat ale ) was good too. Great little place with nice outside seating.

  • Sash W.

Service was awful. They were only half full but just continued to ignore us all night to pay attention to friends and regulars. Food was below average. My sweet potato fries tasted like soggy Ore Ida's and ended up making me sick. I hadn't eaten for 6 hours but 30 mins after eating just a few fries, I was horribly ill. The decor and atmosphere was fun. But that's it. Just don't waste your time or money.

We came in 1 hour and 15 minutes before closing time, take a seat, start looking at menus, and a waitress comes to take our drink order. After bringing our drinks, she asks us if we'd like to start with an appetizer. We mention we are ready to order and she stares at us blankly before informing us that the kitchen was already closed. I'm not sure why she though the five of us were studying menus so intently, but apparently it didn't occur to her that we wanted to order food. I'm also not sure why the kitchen was closed over an hour before closing time nor why we weren't told upon being served initially. Very disappointing as we had guests from out of town.

Would like to go back another time to really get a feel for the place. Went once, later at night. They were out of the food I wanted to order, but what we ended up getting was pretty good. Love the atmosphere. Will also be bringing my dogs, pet friendly!

Our second visit to High Desert was actually better than our first visit. My wife got the same meal both times, Turkey, Bacon, Guacamole sandwich with sweet potato fries. I had the reuben on this visit - very good, with the garlic herb fries, which were good both times. Didn't try any of the brews yet. Maybe when thy have the Amber Lager, I will give it a try.

The brewery says that none of their beers suck, and I would agree, but none of them go above and beyond other microbreweries I've sampled throughout the South West. The brown ale was typical of a brown ale, and good, but otherwise unremarkable. Their Anniversary IPA was the same, hoppy, nice hop aroma, malty and sweet, but not anything unique. The ESB is perhaps a little better than others I've had with a unique nutty character. The barley wine is perhaps their best offering of the four I tried, having a smooth, buttery quality, very full bodied, though not as strong as other barley wines. I'd have given this place 4 stars, but their food sucks, and their service is spotty. I sat at the bar on a Wed night, and the guy in charge kept forgetting to check on us. The atmosphere has a nice jive though, and I would come back, cause after all, the beer is still better than any of the major labels, and a great place to meet the younger, more hip people of Las Cruces.

It was so nice to discover this little place among the throngs of national chain restaurants in Las Cruces. They are a microbrewery and even though I'm not a lover of beer, I enjoyed my one pint of IPA and Blonde Ale. Both were decent and I would definitely recommend the Blonde Ale. As for food, it is typical pub fare mixed with the flavor of Las Cruces (just add green chilies). It does get a bit loud on weekends but if you are willing to embrace the atmosphere, I guarantee you will enjoy yourself. TIP: If you want to have some fun with some perfect strangers, sit in the room just past the kitchen where there are two gigantic "u" shaped booths facing each other. It's a great way to start up a conversation with people you don't know yet. Also, watch out or a Chihuahua will try and jump in your car as you leave.

The food was great - when we finally got it.....The beer was pretty decent. The service was lacking - very, very slow, even though they were not busy when we first got there. The place is not very clean a dive really, and could stand to use some updating - because of the food and beer we'll probably return.

Definitely my favorite micro-brew pub! It is not for everyone (beer-snobs note) as they specialize in the more traditional styles but they have expanded their beer menu to include some cool new beers. Great pub food! Anything with green chile on it is fantastic and the fried mushrooms are fantastic. Grab a steam beer, some nachos and enjoy!

It was only 8:30. I was only passing through, in need of a weekend brew.Flew through the doors to find a quiet pub filled with local buds. By 9:00, an all-girl bluegrass band from Boulder started shaking things up, making things up, and making the crowd get rowdy. The only beer sold is brewed on the premises, loved by the waitresses, and consumed by everybody, in one big party. By 10:00, the old folks were few, and the place was filled with quiet men, and pretty girls, each looking to meet their respective match. In the short time there, I met the brewer, the band, and a handful of humans with stories to tell. The regulars are some of the best folk I've every met. The girls were some of the nicest I've ever met. The beer (I had the India Pale Ale, and the Extra Bitter) was some of the best I've ever drank. If you're in town, be sure to stop by.

This place has the worst service I have ever experienced!!! The waiters are incompetent and just plain rude. I brought a friend from out of town here for lunch and we had to wait for 15 minutes just too be seated in an empty dining room. The food is somewhat generic pub food that has no flair. After being seated we ordered 2 burgers and a couple beers. The total came out to just over $22 bucks and change. After paying with a $50 the waiter came back with $20 dollars. I know it is customary in the restaurant business to not bring change to the table but I've never had a waiter tip themselves! Well keep the change and enjoy it dumbass cuz I wont ever be coming back! (maybe you should buy a calculator) The one star is for the beer which is ok but get a growler and go to the Game, which has much better food!

cozy, relaxed outdoor patio and efficient servers. The three of us were satisfied with our menu items, green chile burger, green chile and grilled chicken sandwich, and chipotle grilled chicken sandwich. The jalapenos poppers were not excellent but passable. The beers were tasty on a warm evening. I will come back to this place next time I am in Las Cruces.

I'm def a fan of the brew! And I agree that the people are great. I'm not a fan of the fluorescent lighting or decor. It's not uppity, that's cool, but some better lighting would make it a much more comfy place to hang out.

My favorite bar. Eclectic clientele, college kids and retired barflies, fantastic. Most of the bartenders that work there are the reason why I love it. There is one girl who I've seen working the day shift who acts a little salty but other then her everyone else makes the place fantastic. The beer is all stellar: peach wheat is perfect for summer and if they have holiday ale on draught get after that! Free pint in your birthday too!! And then the food... I've only strayed from their killer (and cheap) nachos a few times but I wasn't disappointed. The hummus and veggies wasn't awesome but the chile stew was fantastic (annnnd super spicy). But you can't go wrong if you get the nachos.

This is my favorite bar, ever, period. It's over an hour away from where I live, but I've driven there with friends just for a beer and a bratworst, and El Paso isn't exactly lacking in good gastropubs and the like. The food is pretty excellent and the beer is really, really good. The atmosphere is really relaxing, too and I've spent hours there shooting the s**t with friends there. It's worth buying a growler to fill up while you're there, because a lot of the beers are seasonal and they might be out of something you like pretty quick. Some other things to keep in mind, the nachos are f***ing huge and unless they've gotten smaller since I last went, a medium order can easily feed 4 people so don't order the large unless you're not eating anything else and you're with a large group. There's also a gorgeous park like a 5 minute drive away that's nice to work off your buzz before getting back on the road, if you're coming from out of town. Love this place.

Loved the Dark Bock and highly recommend giving to a shot. The Veggie Burger is out of this world and the green chile sparked with excitement. If your are in the area or just passing through I say give it a taste you won't be let down.

  • J D.

Great beer selection. We've never tried one that we didn't like. The nachos are the best ever! The small is large enough to make a filling meal for two adults (and my husband can eat a lot!) they have lots of vegetarian choices which is very important to us. We love this place and recommend it for a nice quiet place to relax and enjoy a cold beer and some fabulous nachos!

  • Brady E.

One of the best green chile cheeseburgers we've ever had. The ber was darn good too, and the service was timely, attentive, and we had regular quality checks from the server. We saw a big ol' boy next to us get an order of Nachos and that thing looked like Mount Vesuvius! The music was good but just a little too Michael Jackson-centric. Great place!

  • J L.

Not a beer drinker. Kinda divided on the food. The breaded mushrooms were disgusting. These were straight out of the box in the freezer. Seriously. It was so obvious that they bougjht these from the freezer section of Sam's Club. They were soggy and disgusting. I've had the Sam's club version and these were them. However, the hamburgers are some of the best I have ever had. They have a nice freshly grilled flavor. I love the mushroom swiss burger! Their green chile cheese burger was sad though, being one whole chile laid on top of the patty. One bite and the whole chile came off. Didn't have much flavor either. Perhaps if they would chop the chile and place it on or under the cheese.....

This was one of the first nightspots I went to upon my arrival in Las Cruces. I attended the Hatch Chili Festival the same afternoon, and sampled in the beer tent High Desert's Peach Lager, and it was amazing! Not overly peachy, but a great full-bodied lager with a nice peach finish. It was a refreshing treat from the commercial domestics that are the usual offerings in festival beer tents. By chance we sat next to the nicest couple visiting from Minnesota in the beer tent. As we struck up a conversation, we all decided to meet later on back in Las Cruces at the High Desert. So, that evening the four of us got a nice outdoor table on their patio. Most of us ordered the Peach Lager, which was just as refreshing as our afternoon festival beers. I also tried their IPA (one of my favorite all-time beers, and my measuring standard for brewpubs and microbreweries). Their IPA did not disappoint! A nice clean, yet slightly hoppy taste, with a great finish. So far, so good. We all ordered food, and I had a most excellent mushroom and Swiss burger. I'm a huge cheeseburger fan, and amongst the plethora of cheeseburgers I consume in the course of my life, I can tell you that as I'm writing this review six weeks after my visit, this was a standout burger. I still think about how awesome this burger was. Coupled with sweet potato fries, this was as good as any fine dining establishment burger, and I was employing it as bar food. To that I give major kudos to the chef and kitchen staff. Our waiter was a cool, fun guy and very attentive. In the next room, a band was beginning to set up as we drank, dined, and drank. The crowd on the patio was lively and friendly. It was a great atmosphere to entertain our new Minnesota friends. Most importantly, I think it helped to give a great impression of Las Cruces that they'll take back with them. AND, when they decide to move to Las Cruces, my good friend Melissa Chambers of EXIT Realty Horizons can sell them a house! (Shameless plug, I know, but Melissa promised me another of these awesome cheeseburgers to put it in here. Will work for food!) I'll definitely come back, in fact, I look forward to my next return to High Desert Brewing Co. In fact, if my next visit or two is as good as the impression I got from the first visit, i might even come back and give them that fifth star!

This place is the best in town. LC is generally a quiet place with not a lot happening, but High Desert would feel at home in Austin, Tucson, or any other bigger city. I love beer, I love local joints, and I love live music. This place has all that plus cool people and good bar food.

Oh man this place is always happening! As in the name this is a local brewery which is just amazing. Always changing the lineup for the different seasons during the year. Nothing but a good vibe whenever we come here. Live music during the evening which is awesome motivation. Its just a nice place to chill with the "bro's" Its a little hard to find but any of the locals knows where this place is. Excellent establishment.

Great local pub. An eclectic group of people from all walks of life come together for a brew. Visited at lunch Feb, 2010. Food was much better than expected. I had the quesadilla and split a green chile cheeseburger. The quesadilla was delicious. The cheeseburger was good and tasted like a charbroiled burger you would cook at home. Slightly overcooked, but the fixings and green chile made up for that. The wheat beer was great! I'll be back.

Have been here many times and tried a number of menu options. The food has always been good, though we all found the fried onion rings a bit greasy it wasn't enough to keep us from ordering them again. The green chile chicken and burgers are very good. Like the way they do a grilled whole split chile rather than the chopped stuff so many other places use. The dark beers have been very good, a relief from the usual American stuff for those of us used to European style beer, ale and stout. On the downside, as someone else pointed out, the place looks a bit scary from the cleanliness point of view, almost hate to touch some of the menus and the stuff stuck all over the ceiling doesn't do it for us but we like being able to eat outside on the patio and take the dog along. The patio area is really quite pleasant and well shaded with both smoking and non-smoking areas. Just wish they could attend to the cleaning aspects a bit more, probably even go up a star if they could improve that aspect and prefer to sit outside for that reason alone even if we didn't frequently bring the dog.

The food is ok i havent really tried anything other than the nachos. But the beer is fantastic and Las Cruces should be very thankful to have a place like this. The only complaint I have is trying to get a table on a thursday or friday after work, but you can always buy a growler and take the beer home instead.
